Question from Jeremy B.:
Hello Invention Geek,
What are the real names of the men pictured on the Smith Brother’s cough drop logo?
Jeremy B.
Hi Jeremy,
The men pictured on the Smith Brother’s logo are actually William and Andrew Smith. In 1872, to prevent stores from selling other cough drops as their product and to address issues of hygiene, the bothers developed one of the first factory filled packages. In 1887, Smith Brothers registered their trademark which included pictures of the brothers. When the package was designed using the logo, the word Trade was under the picture of Andrew and Mark appeared below the picture of William. The two brothers became known to those who used the cough drops as Trade and Mark.
